A bit more about the panel session
We sat down with Jacqui Hansen, Senior Advisor Asset Management at IPWEA, to ask some questions about the upcoming panel session:
Q: What can people expect from the Expert Panel session?
The session will be in a webinar format, including a question-and-answer session with our two expert panellists. We plan on introducing the concepts of digital engineering, digital twins, BIM as well as relevant emerging technologies. There’s no prior knowledge assumed for this session.
Q: What kinds of insights will be provided?
Our first panellist, Nassim, has real life experience using digital engineering in asset management, providing services to local government. The session will feature practical, real life “how to” advice, of how digital engineering can be implemented. Our second panellist, Emily, is at the cutting edge of the emerging technology, working at University of Wollongong. She will explain new innovations in digital engineering, and give examples of current applications in industry, that can be applied to infrastructure in the future.
Q: How will this session help people go about their day to day?
Australia is not at the cutting edge of digital engineering. Amazing things are happening in other countries, and its important for Australian audiences to stay informed. There is the potential for digital engineering and digital twins to radically impact how assets are managed in the future. For example, by simulating scenarios that make it easier to balance financial, environmental and social costs, and providing real time monitoring to inform decision making. It is happening overseas - Let’s not get left behind!!
The Commonwealth and State governments in Australia are increasingly mandating digital engineering for big infrastructure projects (greater than $25M). It is only a matter time before it becomes cost effective to implement for smaller projects, and mandated requirements are applied to local government. I believe IPWEA has an important role to keep members informed.
